This research explores how the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 transformed the enforcement of the European Union’s fundamental values — democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and human dignity — from an internal legal principle into a core element of the EU’s geopolitical identity. The study argues that the war served as both a crisis and a catalyst, forcing the EU to translate its declarative commitments into concrete political action. By examining the interplay between law, politics, and diplomacy, the research reveals how the EU’s system of value enforcement evolved from a limited rule-of-law mechanism into a comprehensive strategic framework that underpins legitimacy, unity, and global influence. |
