| Abstract [eng] |
The master's thesis consists of two parts: theory and research. The theoretical part examines how international relations between states are formed, what interests drive the development of such relations, and how they are influenced by the media and international communication between the states themselves. It also examines the possibilities for small states to act and the influence that soft power has on such states. The example examined is the opening of the Taiwanese representative office in Lithuania. In addition, a detailed analysis is provided of what media framing is, how it works, and what the frames are. The study analyzes 28 articles from different European and US publications about the opening of the Taiwanese representative office in Lithuania and the events that followed. The articles are analyzed to identify which media frames dominated, what narrative was constructed with the help of those frames, whether there were differences, and if so, how the same frames were used in different media outlets. |
