| Abstract [eng] |
The European Green Deal (EGD) is a central European Union policy framework aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2050, with the transportation sector playing a critical role due to its high greenhouse gas emissions. This study investigates how the European Green Deal has influenced the business operations of organizations within Lithuania’s transportation sector, drawing on Sustainability Theory and Transition Theory. Using a qualitative multiple case study approach, data were collected through document analysis of four Lithuanian transportation and logistics companies and supplemented by two semi-structured expert interviews. The findings indicate that the EGD has had a noticeable impact on both strategic planning and operational practices, although the depth of this impact varies depending on organizational size, resources, and market exposure. Larger firms tend to integrate sustainability objectives into long-term strategies, while smaller firms primarily focus on regulatory compliance. Operational changes such as fleet modernization, digitalization, and emissions monitoring are more prevalent than strategic transformation, yet progress is constrained by high investment costs, limited availability of electric vehicles, and insufficient infrastructure. Overall, the study concludes that the European Green Deal acts both as a regulatory challenge and a strategic driver, shaping organizational adaptation and sustainability-oriented transformation within Lithuania’s transportation sector. |
