Abstract [eng] The master's thesis discusses theoretical aspects and peculiarities of supplementary education in pre-school educational institutions. Supplementary education is regarded as extra-curriculum education. The object of the research is the role of the supplementary education with the focus on parent's views on this type of education. The research was structured to the following tasks: to evaluate significance of psychosocial development of pre-school children; to analyze the concept, goals and objectives of the pre-primary education; to review the tendencies of the expression of supplementary education; to study the forms and methods of supplementary education; to outline the attitude of parents towards pre-school children extra-curriculum activities. This study was performed basing on surveys carried out in four kindergartens "X" in the city of Kaunas. The quantitative approach was applied for study's purposes. The following conclusions were made after the analysis of scientific literature: psychosocial development is very important for the development of a child. It starts with communication, contact with parents, from which the child's socialization develops. It is very important for a child of pre-school age to have self-esteem. This helps to feel courageous, active, and not afraid of innovation. Pre-primary education is a child-centered and family-oriented education which helps to mature for school. The main tasks: to ensure the quality of pre-school education, in accordance of the ability of the children; to implement children‘s education in accordance with the child's development. Additional education is provided by an additional teacher. It is run in accordance with approved pre-school plans and is an integral part of the education system. The study concluded that parents look very positively at the supplementary education in kindergartens, but do not consider it to be sufficient. In addition, they search for other supplementary education outside the pre-school institutions.
