| Abstract [eng] |
Introduction. Medulloblastoma is a rare but aggressive form of central nervous system tumor, more commonly diagnosed in children but also occurring in adults. The disease and its treatment have a significant impact not only on neurological but also on psychosocial functioning and overall quality of life. In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the assessment of emotional, cognitive, and social factors in order to better understand the overall impact of the disease on the patient. Aim. To present a clinical case illustrating the importance of psychosocial functioning in a patient with a malignant cerebellar tumor and to discuss its impact on clinical practice and the patient’s daily life. Clinical case presentation. This paper presents a clinical case of a 36-year-old woman diagnosed with grade IV cerebellar medulloblastoma. The patient underwent comprehensive treatment, including surgical tumor resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Quality of life was assessed using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BN20 questionnaires to evaluate subjective aspects of well-being. Despite a relatively high overall quality of life score, the patient exhibited significant impairments in cognitive and emotional functioning, as well as pronounced physical symptoms and financial difficulties. Conclusions. Medulloblastoma in adults can significantly affect not only physical but also psychosocial functioning. Even when the overall quality of life appears relatively good, important cognitive, emotional, and social impairments may persist. A comprehensive and integrated patient assessment, including psychosocial aspects, is essential to ensure holistic care and improve quality of life. |
