Abstract [eng] Women marriage migration in East and Southeast Asia: South Korea case study Today scholars show interest in the field of cross-border marriage migration flows between the Eastern and Southeast Asian countries, when women from developing countries marries men from developed countries and settles with the spouse in his country. This phenomenon classifies East Asia countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore in to receiving countries while Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and some parts of China are classified as sending countries. Such cross-border marriages often take place through so called international marriage brokers or matchmakers, etc., which may include relatives or commercial marriage broker that offer other services. The aim of Master thesis is to show what aspects of commerce and traditions exist in cross-border marriage migration and how they are manifested. This Master thesis analyses whether marital cross-border migration is modernized continuation of traditions or is it commerce? Or do traditions and commerce overlap? During the research of the theme several methods were applied: critical analysis and systematization of scientific literature. The main work research tool is the analysis of literature and scientific articles and a critical analysis of the life stories of Eastern and Southeast Asian women. The work also uses the comparative study method for comparing cross-border cases of marital migration in South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. The study revealed that profit-oriented international marriage brokers promote the commercial aspect of cross-border marriage migration through women's advertising, stereotypical descriptions and certain marital assurances and the desire to meet the wishes of South Korean single men. The traditional aspect of cross-border marriage migration is seen through marriage brokers connection with old traditions and an attempt to realize traditional and cultural norms through modern means such as widespread global communication technologies, air travel and open borders between states. Therefore, it can be argued that efforts of South Korean bachelors to find a bride abroad through commercial marriage brokers reflect the aspect of modernizing traditions, which takes on commercial character through profit-oriented marriage brokers. The Master‘s thesis could be useful for the anthropologists, sociologists, culturologists, human rights organizations, East and South-East Asian and Korean researchers and those who are interested in globalization, multicultural families and cross-border marital migration.
