Abstract [eng] |
Interdisciplinary cognition of law The science of law is gradually changing and shifting from the old science paradigm to the new science paradigm by taking over the inherent characteristics such as the integrity of sciences, openness, questioning of everything and at all times as well as the recognition of the need to cooperate with other sciences. This is the reason why we are talking about the science of law as an interdisciplinary science, the main features of which lie within cooperation with other sciences, recognition of the importance of this cooperation and integration of other sciences in investigating the phenomena relevant to the law. The first part of the work analyses the concept of the science of law and describes the approach of interdisciplinarity of the science both in the general context of sciences and in the science of law. It also clarifies the characteristics of cooperation of law with other sciences and the reasons law needs it as well as analyses the importance of interdisciplinary nature of the law science. While describing the interdisciplinary nature of the law science in the second part of the study, it analyses both the possibilities and importance of cooperation as well as the relation and possibilities of cooperation with the selected sciences particularly relevant to the science of law such as history, philosophy, sociology, economics and neurosciences. The thesis distinguishes the main features connecting the law to the above-mentioned sciences and analyses the mutual benefits cooperation might provide to both the law and each of these sciences. The third part of the thesis describes an empirical study that has analysed the study programmes of the law faculties and law schools of the best ranking universities of the world and those of research centres operating in universities, as well as law study programmes and research centres of Lithuanian universities. This analysis has led to a thorough examination and conclusion that interdisciplinarity is highly recognised by the academic communities of law at the best ranking universities in the world, whereas Lithuania is also catching up and gradually granting access for other sciences into the science of law. Thus, this thesis reveals the concept of the interdisciplinary nature of the law science as well as the possibilities and importance of cooperation between law and other sciences. It also analyses the main characteristics that connect the law science with the selected sciences in such a way revealing the benefits these sciences can provide to each other. Finally, the empirical study described determines the ways interdisciplinary nature of the law science is assessed at the best ranking law universities in the world and Lithuania. |
