The dissertation examines the archetypes in the works of Algirdas Jeronimas Landsbergis (1924–2004) – anima/animus, shadow, persona, and self – as a phenomenon of creative consciousness. It investigates how archetypal structures function in Landsbergis’s oeuvre and what significance they acquire in the process of meaning constitution. The study asks whether archetypes in his work function as a link between the collective unconscious and conscious creative subjectivity, transforming cultural symbols into individually meaningful literary motifs. The research is grounded in Carl Gustav Jung’s analytical psychology, discussing the concepts of archetype, the unconscious, and archaic symbol, alongside a phenomenological approach that enables the analysis of archetypes as phenomena of creative experience and consciousness. The study also draws on Aleksandr Piatigorsky’s phenomenology of myth and Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of dialogism. An integrative methodological approach is employed to conceptualize the phenomenality of archetypes. The analysis encompasses Landsbergis’s entire published oeuvre – short fiction, drama, novel, and poetry – treated as a unified field of artistic expression and aesthetic development. Critical texts are included as a parallel discourse, contextualizing the author’s cultural reception and creative self-understanding. The dissertation’s originality lies in its systematic integration of analytical psychology and phenomenology in Lithuanian literary studies. The research demonstrates that archetypes in Landsbergis’s work function as consciously meaningful structures that support the constitution of meaning and activate dialogue between individual creative consciousness and collective symbolism. |
