Abstract [eng] Rationale: Modern dentistry aims to apply minimally invasive treatment methods that preserve vital pulp tissue and tooth structure. Vital pulp therapy (VPT), using hydraulic calcium silicate cements such as Biodentine (Septodont, Saint Maur des Fosses, France), is becoming an increasingly important alternative to traditional pulpectomy. The success of VPT using Biodentine may depend not only on the properties of the material, but also on the operator‘s experience. To date, there are no data in Lithuania evaluating the clinical success of these procedures when performed by dental students. Objectives: To evaluate the success of treatment using Biodentine for pulp capping and pulpotomy. Materials and methods: A retrospective - prospective observational study was conducted by analyzing medical records of patients treated by students at the Institute of Dentistry, Vilnius University. Patients who underwent pulp capping or pulpotomy using Biodentine between November 9, 2022, and October 9, 2025, and who signed an informed consent form, were included in the study. A clinical examination was performed 6 months after the procedure, and both clinical and radiological examinations were carried out after 12 months. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics. Results were considered statistically significant when p < 0.05. Results: A total of 28 patients with 30 treated teeth were included in the study. The sample consisted of 14 (50 %) males and 14 (50 %) females. The overall treatment success rate reached 80%. The median time to treatment failure was 79.5 days (2.6 months). Age, sex, tooth group, jaw, type and location of caries, and the method of pulp exposure did not have a statistically significant influence on treatment outcomes (p > 0.05). A variety of restorative approaches was observed. However, due to the small sample size, their impact on treatment success could not be reliably assessed. Conclusions: Biodentine is a suitable material for pulp capping and pulpotomy in undergraduate clinical practice. The study did not identify any factors that had a statistically significant influence on the success of treatment of teeth that underwent pulp capping or pulpotomy using Biodentine. Further studies with a larger sample size are required.
