This master’s thesis examines freedom of expression in the media and its key elements: freedom of speech, pluralism of opinions, and the right to information. It also analyzes the concept of a journalist and its legal status in Europe: a journalist’s rights, duties, and the resulting liability for abuse of their status. The thesis examines the threats arising from journalistic activities, reviews the main challenges and trends for the media in the digital environment, and explores mechanisms for the protection of journalists in Europe. The assessment of these aspects is based on international and European Union regulations, including Lithuanian legislation, case law, and “soft law” sources. |
