Abstract [eng] This thesis studies how the European Union is changing the role of consumers during the green transition. For a long time, EU consumer law focused mainly on giving people information to help them make choices. This thesis asks whether recent laws have moved beyond that to give consumers real, enforceable rights. New instruments adopted between 2019 and 2024, such as the Consumer Empowerment Directive and the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation, introduce rights around energy production, product repairability, and green claims. However, gaps in enforcement, unequal access to digital tools, and financial barriers mean the shift from information to true empowerment is legally started but not yet complete.
