Abstract [eng] Abstract The field of interventional radiology is without a doubt becoming more important in modern medicine and the risk of being exposed to ionizing radiation is clear. The focus of that risk lied with the patient mostly and that’s why we have to take a better look at the exposure of the interventional radiology workers, the staff who get exposed to the radiation trying to help somebody else. The exposure to long term cumulative radiation and the radiation that scatters from the patient can put the staff at risk, it could lead to developing cataract or even to leukemia. To keep the interventional radiology workers safe, the hospitals have developed a lot of safety procedures that involve measuring exposure levels, using protective shields and training the staff to handle the modalities in the best possible way. Due to the unpredictability of the procedures in the interventional radiology suite the job of keeping these workers safe can be a challenge. Based upon the results of the analysis of this master's thesis, it appears that current methods of radiation protection are highly successful in minimizing occupational radiation exposure to interventional radiology workers. However, we have to continue the optimization through staff education and training programs and promote a strong safety culture. This is very important to keep the workers healthy and minimize their radiation exposure.
