SUMMARY Introduction: With the increasing prevalence of obesity and the growing number of bariatric surgeries, excess skin and subcutaneous tissue following massive wight loss has become an increasingly common clinical issue. Redundant tissue in the abdominal region leads not only to aesthetic concerns but also impairs mobility, increase the risk of infections, and complicates daily activities. To address these functional and aesthetic problems, abdominoplasty is commonly performed. Although these procedures are generally considered safe, patients after massive weight loss exhibit a higher rate of postoperative complications. Therefore, careful patient selection, appropriate indication setting, and the choice of an optimal surgical technique are essential to minimize associated risks. Purpose of the study: To conduct a comprehensive review of the scientific literature on abdominoplasty following massive weight loss, with particular focus on indications, surgical techniques, and postoperative complications, as well as to present and analyze a clinical case. Task of the study: 1. To present a clinical case and perform an analysis of the surgical treatment and its outcomes. 2. To summarize the main indications for abdominoplasty following massive weight loss. 3. To analyze the surgical techniques of abdominoplasty applied in patients after massive weight loss and the criteria for their selection. 4. To systematize the most relevant information on postoperative complications following abdominoplasty Methods: A review of the scientific literature was conducted using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. A total of 92 scientific sources were selected for analysis, the majority of which were published within the past 10 years, focusing on the indications, surgical techniques, and complications of abdominoplasty after massive weight loss. Results: Indications for abdominoplasty following massive weight loss are primarily associated with functional and aesthetic impairments caused by excess tissue. The most commonly performed technique is classical abdominoplasty. However the optimal surgical method is determined individually, based on the ability to achieve the best functional and aesthetic outcomes with the lowest possible risk of complications. Various postoperative complications may occur, the most frequent being seroma formation, infection, and skin necrosis. Conclusions: Abdominoplasty in patients after massive weight loss sis associated with a higher rate of complications. Therefore, appropriate patient selection and thorough preoperative risk assessment are essential steps toward successful treatment outcomes. The choice of surgical technique should be individualized for each patient, while the risk of postoperative complications can be reduced through both conservative and surgical preventive measures. The long-term durability of functional and aesthetic outcomes depends significantly on patient-related factors. Maintaining stable body weight and a healthy lifestyle is strongly recommended. |
