This thesis aims to critically examine the evidence supporting herbal treatments for liver diseases, with particular attention to their mechanisms of action, efficacy, and safety. While herbal medicine has been used since ancient times for disease prevention and treatment, there has been a recent increase in scientific interest in incorporating medicinal plants into contemporary therapeutic methods. (1) Researchers are increasingly drawing on traditional herbal knowledge to understand the mechanisms behind the therapeutic effects of various plants, especially in managing liver disease. (1) Much of this renewed interest comes from studies showing that many plant-derived compounds have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptotic effects. (1) This thesis is a literature review examining current research on the clinical use of medicinal plants in liver disease. The review will examine major liver conditions and evaluate the evidence for specific herbal treatments, giving a thorough narrative review of their roles and therapeutic potential. |
