The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between eating disorder symptoms, mentalization and epistemic stance in young adults. This master thesis analyzed data of 798 young adults (390 women and 408 men) who are part of the broader research project „The expression and factors of eating disorder symptoms in young adults“, funded by the Research Council of Lithuania No. S-MIP-23-10. To assess eating disorder symptoms in young adults, Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire 6.0 (Fairburn & Beglin, 2008) was used. To assess mentalization, The Mentalization scale (Dimitrijević et al., 2018) was used. The construct of epistemic stance was measured using the Epistemic Trust, Mistrust and Credulity Questionnaire (Campbell et al., 2021). The results of this master thesis revealed that young adults who reflect more on other people mental states than their own experience symptoms of eating disorder more frequently and more intensely. Furthermore, the constructs of epistemic stance are weakly positively associated with most eating disorder symptoms. |
