Abstract [eng] Thesis topic – Cultural Changes in Lithuanian Educational Institutions Through the Application of Lean Methods In this thesis we analyse how the implementation of Lean methods influences organizational culture in educational institutions, community functioning, and education process management. The relevance of the topic is determined by the growing need for educational institutions to operate consistently and effectively, and by their ability to adapt to continuous changes. The scientific literature emphasizes that Lean methods are associated not only with process efficiency, but also with changes in organizational culture; however, there is still a lack of such research in the Lithuanian educational context. The aim of the study – to examine how the implementation of Lean methods in educational institutions influences their organizational culture and the changes it generates. The study analyzed the concept of organizational culture and its significance in educational organizations, discussed the interaction between Lean methods and organizational culture, and reviewed research on the application of Lean in education. A qualitative research strategy was used in the empirical part. Data was collected using the method of semi-structured interviews. The study involved managers and teachers from educational institutions applying Lean methods. The research data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results of the study reveal that the application of Lean methods in educational institutions is associated not only with operational efficiency, but also with significant changes in organizational culture. The participants emphasized clearer activity planning, more systematic monitoring, shorter and more structured meetings, clearer shared goals, greater employee engagement, and the distribution of responsibility. The study also revealed a strengthened culture of collaboration, self-governance, and problem-solving. Problems in organizations began to be perceived not as objects of blame, but as opportunities for improvement. The study participants also associated the application of Lean methods with strengthened monitoring of student progress, more consistent feedback, and a stronger focus on the quality of education. It was found that the most significant factors of change are the leadership of managers, employee involvement, consistent communication, and organizational readiness for change. The results of the study suggest that Lean methods in educational institutions can influence changes in organizational culture if they are adapted to the educational context, integrated into daily practice, and become an integral part of the institution’s everyday activities.
