Abstract [eng] Problematic social media use is becoming more common, so it is important to investigate the factors associated with this phenomenon. The aim of this study was to assess the relationships between problematic social media use, fear of missing out, stress coping strategies, and relationship satisfaction. Compulsive Internet Use Scale-9, Improved four-factor coping with stress questionnaire, the FOMO scale, Lithuanian Psychological Well-Being Scale satisfaction with relatives, satisfaction with interpersonal relations were used. The study included 114 participants aged 18 to 40 years (M = 27,39, SD = 6,65), of whom 35 were male (M = 26,37, SD = 5,9) and 79 were female (M = 27.84, SD = 6,94). Statistical analyses included Pearson and Spearman correlations, Kruskal–Wallis test, independent samples Student's t-test, Mann–Whitney U test, and mediation analysis. Higher level of problematic social media use was associated with higher fear of missing out, lower satisfaction with interpersonal relationships, more frequent use of emotional discharge, and less frequent use of problem-solving coping strategies. Emotional discharge strategy predicted problematic social media use both directly and indirectly through fear of missing out. These findings may be useful in developing interventions aimed at the prevention and reduction of problematic social media use.
