Abstract [eng] As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, young people who left the country are required to adapt to life in their chosen country of migration. Based on the ideas of social control theories, the relocation of young war refugees may disrupt control elements of deviant behavior, which could negatively impact the typical range of a young person’s commitments or occupational activities, as well as their adherence to values, self-control, and so on. The aim of this study is to identify the mechanisms of social control characteristic that occur during integration process of young Ukrainian war refugees in Lithuania and the nature of their manifestations in everyday life. The qualitative study was conducted using the semi-structured interview method, using snowball sampling to interview young Ukrainian war refugees who arrived in Lithuania after the 2022 invasion, belong to the youth age group (18–29 years), and have lived in Lithuania for at least one year. In the course of the study, based on the social control theories of T. Hirschi, F. Ivan Nye, W. Reckless, R. J. Sampson, and J. H. Laub, it was found that during the early integration period, units of social control such as the social support system, family, and educational institutions are relevant to young people, whereas during the late integration period, importance is attributed to romantic relationships and work. Religion, friends, and the leisure activities associated with them remain consistently relevant in the lives of young people, but the importance attributed to the latter two factors varies across different stages of adaptation periods. These control mechanisms in the lives of young Ukrainian war refugees in Lithuania manifest themselves in both formal and informal ways, responding to external and internal pressures and thereby shaping the process of adaptation process in Lithuania.
