Abstract [eng] Background. Cardiovascular diseases remain one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, and in advanced cases coronary artery bypass grafting is performed. Although this surgery improves patients’ quality of life, the early postoperative period is complex and involves not only physical recovery but also psycho-emotional experiences. Despite increasing attention to clinical outcomes, patients’ recovery experiences, the significance of nursing actions, and motivation for lifestyle change remain insufficiently explored, particularly in the Lithuanian context. Therefore, this study aims to gain a deeper understanding of patients’ recovery experiences and related factors in the early postoperative period. Aim of the study – to analyse patients’ recovery experiences in the early postoperative period after coronary artery bypass grafting. Objectives: 1. To reveal patients’ recovery experiences related to psycho-emotional experiences in the early postoperative period after coronary artery bypass grafting. 2. To identify patients’ experiences related to the significance of nursing staff actions in the recovery process. 3. To analyse patients’ controlled and autonomous motivation to change lifestyle after coronary artery bypass grafting based on Self-Determination Theory. Methods. A qualitative research approach was applied. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, allowing participants to freely express their experiences. Data were analysed using inductive content analysis, identifying categories and subcategories based on participants’ narratives. The study included 10 informants selected through purposive sampling according to predefined inclusion criteria. Results and conclusions. Patients’ recovery experiences in the early postoperative period are multidimensional and encompass psycho-emotional experiences, the significance of nursing staff actions, and motivation for lifestyle change. Patients experience contradictory emotions ranging from relief to anxiety related to their physical condition. Emotional support, communication, and assistance in daily activities provided by nursing staff strengthen patients’ sense of safety. Patients’ motivation to change lifestyle is heterogeneous, manifesting as both autonomous and controlled motivation, while some patients demonstrate limited readiness for change.
