Work relevance: Although the effects of physical activity on pain have been widely analyzed, there is still a lack of research assessing whether greater static muscular endurance may be associated with higher pain tolerance. Investigating these relationships is important for achieving a better understanding of the interaction between physical capacity and pain perception. The aim of research work: To determine the relationship between pain tolerance levels and static muscle endurance. Tasks of work: 1. To assess the static muscle endurance of the participants; 2. To evaluate the participants’ pain threshold and pain tolerance; 3. To assess the level of physical activity and its relationship with pain threshold and tolerance; 4. To determine the relationship between subjective pain assessment and static muscle endurance. Materials and methods: The study was conducted in 2025–2026 at the Science Center of the Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University. The study included 60 young adults aged 18–30 years. Static muscular endurance, pain threshold and tolerance, subjective pain assessment, and physical activity (IPAQ-LT) were evaluated. Data analysis was performed using the “SPSS 30.0.0.0” and “MS Excel” software programs. Results: No statistically significant differences were found in static muscular endurance and pain indicators between genders (p > 0.05). Only weak to moderate correlations were identified between pain indicators, while the associations of static muscular endurance and physical activity with pain indicators were weak and statistically non-significant (p > 0.05). Conclusions: 1. After assessing the participants’ static muscle endurance, it was found that the results of the arm hold and wall sit tests showed high variability, indicating uneven endurance levels among participants. No statistically significant differences were found between men and women (p = 0.194), although slightly higher mean values were observed in the female group. 2. After evaluating pain threshold and tolerance, these measures also showed high individual variability. No statistically significant differences were found between sexes in either pain threshold (p = 0.319) or pain tolerance (p = 0.119), suggesting that pain tolerance abilities in this sample were not dependent on sex, despite a similar onset of pain perception. 3. Analysis of the relationship between physical activity level and pain variables revealed no statistically significant associations, either in the overall sample or when analyzed by sex (p > 0.05). Only very weak correlations were found with both different measurement methods indicating that physical activity level was not associated with pain threshold or tolerance in this sample. 4. When examining the relationship between subjective pain assessment and static muscle endurance, no statistically significant associations were found (p > 0.05), and the observed relationships were weak. This suggests that subjective pain perception is not related to static muscle endurance measures. |
