Background: Telerehabilitation is one of the emerging fields of telemedicine, enabling patients to receive rehabilitation services remotely and thereby improving access to rehabilitation services. However, the scientific literature reports conflicting findings regarding the effectiveness of various telerehabilitation methods in pain management, motivation maintenance, and mobility improvement. Aim of the study – To evaluate the effects of different remote physiotherapy approaches on patient motivation, pain, and functional status in individuals with non-specific low back pain. Objectives: 1. To compare the effects of two different remote physiotherapy methods on patient motivation; 2. To compare the effects of two different remote physiotherapy methods on non-specific low back pain; 3. To compare the effects of two different remote physiotherapy methods on functional status. Materials and Methods: Working-age individuals experiencing non-specific low back pain who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study and had access to an internet connection and a smart device were included. A total of 42 patients were enrolled and divided into two groups: an intervention group, in which participants received telerehabilitation through video calls, and a control group, in which participants received telerehabilitation based on video recordings. Changes in patient motivation, functional status, and pain after completion of the physiotherapy programmes were compared between groups. Statistical data analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel 2016 and IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 software. Results: After completion of the physiotherapy programme, patients in the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher motivation to adhere to the prescribed remote physiotherapy programme compared to the control group (p = 0.01). Pain intensity significantly decreased in both groups (p = 0.04). Following the physiotherapy programmes, the improvement in functional status was significantly greater in the intervention group compared to the control group (p = 0.04). Changes in lower back mobility differed significantly between the groups, with a greater improvement observed in the intervention group (p = 0.04). Conclusions: 1. In working-age patients experiencing chronic non-specific low back pain, telerehabilitation delivered through video calls significantly increases motivation more than a physiotherapy programme based on video recordings. 2. In working-age patients experiencing chronic non-specific low back pain, both a video call-based remote physiotherapy programme and a video recording-based remote physiotherapy programme are associated with a significant reduction in low back pain. 3. In working-age patients experiencing chronic non-specific low back pain, a remote physiotherapy programme based on video calls results in significantly better functional status and low back mobility compared to a programme based solely on video recordings. |
