Abstract [eng] In recent years, increasing attention in sports science research has been devoted to the application of specialized physical training programs in volleyball and their effects on athletes’ physical and functional preparedness (Rebelo et al., 2022). Nevertheless, there is still a lack of studies providing a comprehensive evaluation of additional physical training interventions applied specifically during the preparatory period of young volleyball players’ training. Therefore, the following research question was raised: how do training management and additional training sessions applied during the preparatory period affect the physical and technical preparedness of young volleyball players? Research hypothesis – it was assumed that an additional physical training program applied during the preparatory period would positively affect the physical preparedness of young volleyball players, and that better preparedness indicators would be associated with a higher sports ranking. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of training management during the preparatory period on the physical preparedness of young volleyball players by applying an additional training program. The methodology of the study was based on two main theoretical approaches: adaptation to physical loads and sports training theories. The following research methods were applied: analysis and synthesis of scientific literature sources, testing, experiment, ranking, and mathematical statistics methods. The sample consisted of 12 young volleyball players. Conclusions and main findings: 1) After the pedagogical experiment, statistically significant improvements were observed in vertical jump, 5 m sprint, and agility performance indicators of young volleyball players (p < 0.05). The greatest effect of the additional physical training program was observed in speed-strength and agility abilities; 2) The strongest associations between physical preparedness and sports mastery were found for vertical jump indicators. A statistically significant relationship was established between sports ranking and changes in vertical jump height without arm swing (r = 0.587; p < 0.05); 3) The additional training program applied during the preparatory period was an effective means of improving the physical preparedness of young volleyball players. The greatest effects were observed in improving vertical jump, 5 m sprint, and agility indicators; 4) The proposed hypothesis was only partially confirmed. The additional physical training program significantly improved vertical jump, 5 m sprint, and agility indicators; however, better physical preparedness indicators were not consistently associated with a higher sports ranking.
