Abstract [eng] This thesis examines the Lithuanian-dubbed versions of six English songs from Disney’s animated musical film Encanto (2021). Songs in animated films perform vital narrative and character functions, making their adequate translation essential, particularly for child audiences, who rely on linguistic accessibility to fully engage with the story. The study aimed to reveal how song translation operates under the simultaneous constraints of musical performance, audiovisual synchronisation, and semantic fidelity, and how translators balance these competing demands to produce a functional target language version. The theoretical framework drew on dubbing theory, singable song translation principles, and multimodal analysis, integrating dubbing synchronies (phonetic synchrony, isochrony, and kinesic synchrony) alongside character and content coherence and the five singable translation criteria of singability, sense, naturalness, rhythm, and rhyme, and an interaction-based multimodal framework for evaluating song translation within the dubbing mode was proposed. A binary scoring system was employed across a corpus of 369 lyrical lines, enabling systematic quantitative analysis and cross-song comparison. The results showed that adaptive translation techniques predominated, with paraphrase and repackaging accounting for over half of all lines, while literal translation was reserved for short, structurally simple units. Singability and isochrony were maintained at near-perfect rates, establishing them as non-negotiable constraints, while phonetic synchrony proved the most variable, shaped by shot scale and song pacing. Among the singable translation criteria, sense was most consistently preserved, followed by naturalness, rhythm, and rhyme. Character coherence was broadly maintained across the analysed characters, with the most notable deviations occurring at the level of register and vocabulary. The study demonstrated that song translation in dubbing functions as constrained multimodal adaptation, where successful outcomes depend on strategic compromises across interacting audiovisual restrictions prioritising the target audience’s musical and emotional experience over strict semantic accuracy.
