| Abstract [eng] |
This master's thesis analyzes the translations of the German writer Valdemar Bonzels' literary fairy tale "Maya the Bee and Her Adventures" into Lithuanian. The work examines the translations by Pranas Masiotas in 1923 and 1978 and the translation by Indre Dalia Klimkaite in 2015, comparing them with the original German work of 1912. The main goal of the research is to analyze and compare Lithuanian translations of the fairy tale "Maya the Bee and Her Adventures" from different periods and determine their linguistic, semantic, stylistic and artistic features, to understand the specifics of children's literature translation, to identify the change in translation norms in Lithuania, and how different variants of translations shape the reader's literary experience. During the research, chapter titles, proper names (character names) and verse texts were selected and analyzed, comparing the text of V. Bonzels' original work with the translations made by P. Masiotas and I. D. Klimkaite. The research applied stylistic, semantic and comparative analysis methods, as well as the translation strategies used by the translators, types of adaptation and the transfer of the artistic expression of the original text. The results of the research showed that compared to the original text, P. Masiotas‘ translation is characterized by frequent adaptation, shortening of the text and orientation towards the educational function of children's literature. Most often, the translator changes the images presented in the original text, the stylistics of the text, poetic fragments, thus seeking to adapt the translated text to the children's audience of that era. Meanwhile, the analysis of I. D. Klimkaite's translation showed that the texts translated by this translator remain closer to the original work - the translator more often retains the visual and poetic elements, stylistics and semantics of the text, therefore the translation preserves the authenticity of the original text and the atmosphere of the work. The analysis revealed that translations from different periods reflect not only the individual style of the translators, but also the change in the norms of children's literature in Lithuania. The study showed that translations are very closely related to a specific historical, cultural and linguistic context, therefore the analysis and comparison of translated texts allows us to better understand the development of children's literature translation and the changing approach to the perception and transmission of artistic texts. |
