This article provides a historical overview of Lithuanian bilingual lexicography from its origins in the seventeenth century to the present, with particular attention to the evolution of lexicographic models and the diversification of contact languages. After an initial stage marked by trilingual dictionaries and the Lithuanian-German tradition, the study examines the expansion of language combinations in the late nineteenth century and during the Soviet period, as well as the consolidation of new language pairs after Lithuania’s independence in 1990. Finally, it explores the development of electronic and online dictionaries, highlighting their impact on the renewal of lexicographic practice. For the most significant dictionaries, the most characteristic data are recorded: directionality, number of entries, and technical quality. |
