Abstract [eng] |
The goal of the Thesis is to analyse the theoretical aspects of the links between the economic fluctuations and the unemployment rate of different groups of socio-demographic characteristics, and to investigate the relationship of these indicators in the group of European Union countries. The theoretical section of the Thesis investigates the theoretical impact of the economic fluctuations on the unemployment of different groups of socio-demographic characteristics: it analyses the links between unemployment rate and the gross domestic product, distinguishes cases of the asymmetry of the dependence between unemployment level and economical growth as well as reasons for the occurrence, assesses the relationship between economic fluctuations and unemployment of different socio-demographic groups and its changes. The second section of the Thesis presents the methodology of the study of the impact of economic fluctuations on the unemployment rate of different socio-demographic groups, substantiating the chosen research variables and methods. The third section of the Thesis assesses the impact of the gross domestic product and its changes on the unemployment of different socio-demographic characteristics in the group of European Union countries: it analyses the trends of the indicators of the gross domestic product and the unemployment, interprets the results of the correlation and regression analysis performed with the relationship of the economic fluctuations and the unemployment, studies the statistical relationship between the gross domestic product and the unemployment in accordance with socio-demographic characteristics of the unemployed (gender, age and education). The analysis performed of the impact of economic fluctuation on the unemployment of European Union in 1998–2017 has shown that there is a significant dependence between gross domestic product and unemployment and the impact of economic growth on unemployment rate is appropriate up to 3 quarters. It has also been found that economic fluctuations have a more pronounced impact on the unemployment of male and people with a low level of education, although unemployment among the middle-aged population has been determined as more sensitive to economic changes compared to the youth age group. Moreover, higher impact of education on fluctuations in unemployment, rather than age or gender, was established. The relationship between the gross domestic product and the unemployment of the less educated youth is closer in the period economic recession then in the one economic growth, although economic growth has a greater impact on unemployment among older, more educated people. |
