Abstract [eng] The results suggested the following conclusions: 1. The phonological system of vowels peculiar to Surviliškis subdialect described by Žirgulys consists of short phonemes /ɔ, a, ẹ/ and not short (half-long) phonemes /u., uo, ., a., ., ie, i./. Not only pure monophthongs, but also the so-called gliding diphthongs /ie/, /uo/ are included in the vowel system, because both of them, as well as monophthongs, are neutralized in the unstressed syllables. 2. According to the pronunciation of *an, *am, *en, *em, ą, ę, this subdialect is the closest to the present East- Aukštaitian dialect of Panevėžys. Two more peculiarities of the subdialect, namely, the degree of the reduction of short final vowels (three vowels of different quality exist) and uo, ie reflexes in unstressed syllables of the stem (a, e) show the connection with the present East-Aukštaitian dialect of Širvintos. 3. 80 years ago short final vowels had certainly differed in quality on the whole western boundary of East-Aukštaitian dialect. Surviliškis subdialect is attributed to the southern East-Aukštaitian dialect of Panevėžys according to the modern classification of Lithuanian dialects by Aleksas Girdenis and Zigmas Zinkevičius.
