Abstract [eng] Child Sexual Abuse and Its Prevention Problems This work analyses the historical background of child sexual abuse as well as the development of its legal regulation both in foreign countries (with greater focus on the general recognition and establishment of sexual abuse regulation) and in Lithuania. In addition, statistical data showing the extent of child sexual abuse are evaluated according to the data of sociological studies and evaluation and analysis of factors determining child sexual abuse. On the basis of the evaluation of both the legislator and researchers' proposals for the prevention of child sexual abuse, it was established that today the legislator is mostly guided by the enforcement of repressive provisions of criminal law. On the basis of the assessments given by both the Legal Department of the Office of the Seimas and opinions of other researchers on this position of the legislator, it should be concluded that the stiffening of laws is not the most appropriate measure to resolve the problem of the prevention of child sexual abuse. Taking into account the position of sociologists and criminologists, it should be noted that preventive measures related to the prevention of child sexual abuse have not been fully implemented until now. Projects related to informing the public are funded not as sufficiently as to be implemented properly in order to protect children.
