Abstract [eng] |
There are a lot of inconsistency in scientific literature analyzing psychological characteristics of Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA). However, there is agreement on existing chaotic atmosphere in families with one or two alcohol dependent adults. This study examines experience of rules (in nuclear family and in adult life) in ACOA sample because this has not been scientifically investigated thus far. We chose to study it from qualitative perspective and chose semi-structured interview for gathering data. 8 participants (4 men, 4 women) 24-28 years old participated in this study. They had previous experience of living with alcohol dependent father at least till adolescence. Results showed that rules in nuclear families fluctuated in line with changing state of father: between radical freedom and tyrannical strictness. Experience of rules appeared as disturbed: charged with intense feelings of fear, anger and unfairness. Results showed that difficulties in experiencing rules are present during adult life: most of them arise via emotionally intense reactions to rules in close relationships. |
