The aim of this study is to assess post-traumatic stress reactions and their relationship with risk factors among survivors of physical assault with a weapon. One hundred twenty nine survivors of physical assault with a weapon participated in the study. Traumatic experiences of survivors was assessed with The Life Events Checklist (Weathers et al., 2013), post-traumatic stress reactions and their severity was measured with International Trauma Questionnaire (Cloitre, Roberts, Bisson, & Brewin, 2016) and questions about sociodemographic factors (sex, age, education, marital status, subjective health rating) was presented. Results of the study shown that more than a half of survivors in addition to physical assault with a weapon also experienced physical assault, motor vehicle accident, and accident at work/ home/ leisure time. Woman compared to men experienced more trauma of sexual nature. Current post-traumatic stress disorder prevalence among survivors of physical assault with a weapon is 40, 3 %. Factors associated with bigger post-traumatic stress disorder risk among survivors is more than eight traumatic experiences, no long-term relationship and lower subjective health rating. Female sex and no long-term relationship also was a risk factor for more severe post-traumatic stress reactions. |
