Abstract [eng] V. Kuzma was a suergeon who performed the first experimental renal transplantation in Lithuania. He gained his first experience in experimental organ and tissue transplantation in Vienna, where he cooperated with Dr. Gold, member of A. Eiselsberg’s team. In Kaunas, V. Kuzma proceeded his experiments on kidney autotransplantations, allotransplantations and xenotransplantations. He performed renal allotransplations and xenotransplantations in parabiosis conditions when cross blood circulation between the donor and the recipient was created. V. Kuzma carried out the above-mentioned experiments in Kaunas University in 1927–1929. Experiments on renal transplantations were started again in 1964 at Laboratory of Cardiovascular Surgery of Vilnius University. This experience was valuable for clinical renal transplantation started in Vilnius in 1970.
