Abstract [eng] Background / objective. A new method, laparoscopic or retroperitoneoscopic removal of ureteric stones, – is being tried in Lithuania. It can be useful as an alternative to ESWL, ureteroscopy with ureterolithotripsy when they fail, or open ureterolithotomy in cases with a severe therapeutic pathology (when open surgery is imposible). Case report. The first retroperitoneoscopic ureterolithotomy was perfomed in Vilnius City University Hospital Urologic Department. Before operation the patient underwent unsuccessful 3 ESWL to a stone of the right upper part of the ureter. The open operation was dangerous because of severe therapeutic diseases, and ureteroscopy could be very complicated and possibly unsuccessful. The operation was successfully performed, the patient was relieved of the disease and discharged from hospital. Conclusion. This first operation shows the method to be an effective, minimal traumatic and safe, minimal invasive method in ureteric stone disease treatment.
