Abstract [eng] |
The article deals with the analysis of the philosophical assumptions of Benedict Anderson's theory of nationalism. The author has popularized the idea that a nation is an imagined community. The article aims at proving the invalidity of the philosophical assumptions underlying the abovementioned idea. In order to encourage the debates, the author refers to the arguments raised by Edmund Burk and Georg Hegel. These authors challenged the theory of social contract. Imagination cannot explain the origin of nations. On the contrary, the very fact of collective imagination needs a separate explanation. There exist certain objective restrictions of personal and collective imagination. B. Anderson fails to perceive the difference between the nation and the images that dedfine it. |
