Acid-related disorders of the upper gastrointestinal tract are the most important indications for treatment with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). PSIs have become the gold standard for gastroesophageal reflux disease and peptic ulcer treatment. They are effective for Helicobacter pylori eradication in patients with peptic ulcers. PPI are irreplaceable in achieving healing in ulcers related to non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, even during their continued, long-term use, and prevention of such lesions. PPI are safe and well tolerated medicines. |
