The aim of the final master thesis is to analyse the usage of the root saul- in lithuanian lexis. The analysis sample has been made up of the words found in electronic version of the Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language also the terms found in the Terminology Bank of the Republic of Lithuania and phraseologisms found in electronic version of the Dictionary of phraseology. In total 181 words, 120 terms and 55 phraseologisms formed by using root saul- have been analysed. Also in the Data Directory of Neologisms, in the Corpus of the Contemporary Lithuanian Language and in headline of the Dictionary of the generic Lithuanian Language formed by using root saul- and not included in dictionaries have been analysed too (16). The derivatives have been grouped according to parts of speech and the method of formation. The derivative nouns are built by compounding two underlying words and by adding different prefixes, suffixes, inflexes and also are mixed formation too. 116 compounds, 20 prefixed derivatives, 15 suffixed derivatives, 1 inflexed derivative and 7 mixed formation derivatives have been found. The adjective derivatives are built by compounding two underlying words and by adding suffixes and prefixes: 6 compounds, 5 suffixed derivatives and 4 prefixed derivatives have been found. The verb derivatives are built by adding different prefixes and suffixes: 4 prefixes 3 suffixes have been found. Having analysed all the words having the root saul-, 30 derivational synonyms and 16 derivational variants sequences have been made and discussed. Also 1 derivational antonym sequence have been found too. The terms have been classified according to the structure. In addition, the grammatical relations, which relate the components of the terms, have been discussed. 112 compound terms, 6 single-world terms and 2 non-usable terms have been found. Three-word and two-word terms took the biggest part of analysis (52 and 50 terms). Also 10 multi-word terms where found too: 6 of them are made from four words, 3 from five words and 1 from six words. Most of the all terms are related by control relations – 68. The concordance relations have been found in 41 terms and adjoining – in 3 terms. 4 antonyms pairs and 1 synonym pair have been found. The phraseologisms classified by motivation, they are categorized by meaning and structure too. 55 phraseologisms have been found: 47 are motivated and 8 non-motivated. Motivated phraseologisms are metaphorical (30) and metonymical (12). Comparative phraseologisms (5) with conjunction kaip have been found too. From structure point of view analyzed 38 words compounds and 17 sentences form phraseologisms. 8 variants, 2 synonims sequences and 1 antonym sequence have been found. |
