The author scrutinizes the very beginnings of photo-journalism in Lithuania. The article takes into account that the first author to make such an endeavor was Virginijus Juodakis in his book, The History of Lithuanian Photography (NB: until 1945), where Juodakis similarly examined the evolution of photography in Lithuania. Within this earlier work, photo-journalism was analyzed, being briefly noted as one of photography's developing sub-disciplines. The author of this work is well aware that during the last decades of the 20th century, many new books on the history photography as well as scientific research could be found in Lithuania. The author suggests analyzing the parallels with the evolution of European photography and to answer the following questions: 1) Where is the beginning of photo-journalism? 2) How has photo-journalism come to be in the press and in which segments of the press has it best developed its potentials.
