Abstract [eng] The aim of the article is to discuss the main features, also advantages and disadvantages of crystalloids and colloids in the context of their co-administration in perioperative fluid therapy. Rational fluid therapy is reported to improve outcomes after major surgery. Crystalloids, colloids, and their combinations are conventionally used for perioperative fluid administration. None of them is indebatably better than other, and the occurrence of adverse effects is dose-related. A short review discusses the main features of intravenous fluids and the possibilities of their rational dosage and co-administration in the context of new advances in the related sciences. Special emphasis is put on the new methodsof the individualized administration of fluids and the perspectives in the use of semi-closed loop infusion systems.
