Abstract [eng] Money, which has a history of about three millennia, is one of the most popular means of maintaining people’s economic relationships. It goes from hand to hand, travels between tribes, states, and regions. The global history of money, involving all continents, civilizations, empires, and states, is difficult to cover. The theme of money is always and everywhere extremely complicated. We constantly use money, enjoy the opportunities it provides, or are sad because of the lack of money. However, we rarely pay attention to what is depicted on the banknotes we have. The final Master’s Paper consists of a theoretical part, which deals with the main circumstances of the origin of money, the reasons people needed paper money, the main function of paper money. The theoretical part of the paper examines when and why the national currency appeared in Lithuania. Banknote designers, creative process, and graphic elements of paper money are discussed. The main focus of the paper is on the personalities on the banknotes, as well as the historical objects depicted on the reverse side. In the creative work, six well-known Lithuanian personalities are depicted on Lithuanian banknotes from 1991 to 2016. These honoured personalities who have done a lot for the good of Lithuania, originated from the Samogitian region. The year 2019 was referred to as the year of place names. Place names are inseparable from both geographical objects and the people who live there. The first interpretation depicts a portrait of Žemaitė, who was portrayed on the obverse of one litas banknote, with the Palūšė church depicted on the reverse. The second composition depicts Motiejus Valančius who was on the two litas banknote, and Trakai Castle on the reverse. In the third composition, there are portraits of S. Darius and S. Girėnas on the 10 litas banknote, with the Lituanica airplane on the reverse. The fourth one pictures Maironis and J. Zikaras’ sculpture “Freedom”. The fifth depicts Simonas Daukantas and Vilnius University. The collection of works is completed by the sixth work – Vydūnas and Klaipėda Lighthouse. The collection “Historical Reminiscences” consists of six computer graphic works printed on tent fabric, carried out using Adobe Photoshop computer software, in the 1000x12000 format.
