Abstract [eng] |
The aim of this research is to define the importance of the subjunctive mood and to indicate the vitality of its forms in modern French. In the article it is reviewed the term of the subjunctive mood and its possibility to survive. There is also discussed prevailing theory on the subjunctive (O. Soutet, M. Riegel, J. Ch. Pallat, R. Rioul, R. Matonienė, G. Molinié, R. E. Nathan, M. Cohen, P. Charaudeau, M. Callamand, H. Nordahl, C. Cherdon, M. Callamand, H. Nordahl, C. Cherdon, D. J. Bouix, L. C. Harmer) and analyzed the tense system of the subjunctive. Maintaining the opinion of O. Soutet, it is possible to say that the subjunctive is not only the mood that expresses feelings, uncertainties, negations, will or certain evaluations but it is considered to be as a whole of these expressions. It is the type of mood where an action is not “asserted” or “stated” but simply “predictable”. This way, subjunctive always expresses the emotional side of particular ideas that the speaker uses. A carried out linguistic analysis suggests that despite a certain decrease in the usage of the subjunctive mood, it is still irreplaceable in the system of verb forms in the French language. It continues on functioning in the French language and is used because of its excellent ability to convey delicate stylistic and emotional nuances. No other tense or mood is able to replace it. Therefore, it is obvious that the opinion about how unnecessary subjunctive mood is, has no validity and no grounds. |
