Abstract [eng] This article aims to reveal how behaviour inherent to father is perceived in the worldviews of the Lithuanian and German languages. The present research is based on the analysis of 200 examples of adverb tėviškai, and comparative construction kaip tėvas, collected from the Corpus of the Contemporary Lithuanian Language and the same number of their equivalents in German: väterlich and wie ein Vater. The examples of the German language were collected from corpora ids.mannheim and LeipzigWortschatz. The fragments of the worldviews of the Lithuanian and German languages related to the category tėviškumas (fatherhood) were neither compared nor described individually, therefore, the research presented in this article is new, it may provide information on a possible and universal nature of the fatherhood category and its specific characteristics that depend on the specificity of the worldview of language. The research presented in this article is based on the cognitive linguistics approach to the world categorization: the focus is on the fatherhood category in the worldviews of the Lithuanian and German languages; the cases are analysed, when the activities inherent to non-verbal reality are described as performed in fatherhood manner, the essence of things and phenomena are described through the relationship with the fatherhood category. The conclusion is drawn that in the worldviews of the Lithuanian and German languages, the words describing the speech are the most frequently related to the fatherhood category and not so frequent are the names of mimics and movement, the descriptions of behaviour. Only the German language texts contain examples related to the expression of character features. Therefore, it can be assumed that the content of the fatherhood category in both languages is related to the description of a person’s linguistic activity or the activities that lack a clear result. In the worldviews of the Lithuanian and German languages, fatherhood is inseparable from paternity, subordinate relations, and search for closer ties. Subordinate relations can be related not only to the expression of positive emotions but also to verbal aggression. It can be summarized that in the worldviews of compared languages, this fragment of reality is perceived in a similar way. As a difference may be mentioned the tendency to relate fatherhood to the issues of social nature in the worldview of the German language.
