Abstract [eng] |
The article provides the reader with analysis of national media market statistical data in recent years of economic crisis. All the observed tendencies and processes are compared to Western media market development. Thus Lithuanian situation analysis is inscribed into research paradigm of global mass communication system. The structure of the article follows the aim – to identify and describe the recent economical, technological development and social trends that change the behavior and preferences of the audiences and have an impact on the media content and quality. The analysis ends with conclusions. The main findings may be formulated in several statements. First, that technologies change media use. Despite the fact, that more mass media production is used, the audiences are melting. The second one is about press; decrease in revenues makes a challenge to traditional journalism, especially investigative journalism. The television remains the one media who finds the ways to survive economic crises. The analysis also indicates that requirement of objectivity will be changed by that of transparency: spread of technologies enables users to get information from various sources, share and generate content – to enter the journalistic field. As the content changes to subjectivity and tabloidization, the hard news will survive only with indication of the interest. |
