Abstract [eng] Each pre-school institution seeking to ensure efficiency of the educational assistance supposed to find out expectations of a family, the situation of the educational assistance available to a child and family within the institution as well as the problem areas of educational assistance in order to ensure that education is tailored for each child according to his/her needs. This presupposed the problematic context and the goal of a presented study – to find out the situation of and need for provision of educational assistance to the family and child at the pre-school education institutions in the specific community residing in Area X. The empirical tasks are intended to confirm / refute the hypotheses that educational assistance for the family and child at pre-school education institutions of Area X is insufficiently focused on the needs of family and child and that the possibilities of pre-school education institutions in Area X to provide sufficient educational assistance for family and child are limited. 264 respondents took part in the questionnaire survey: 48 pre-school education teachers, 13 student assistance specialists, 203 parents whose children attend the pre-school education institutions. According to the results of the study, the hypothesis stating that educational assistance to family and child at pre-school education institutions of Area X is not sufficiently focused on the family and child’s needs – has been partially confirmed: the institutions employ competent educators who know the directions of how to provide the educational assistance to the family and child, however, there is a lack of individual consultations on the progress and achievements of the child, adaptation of the content for individual education is insufficient, and, also, there is a lack of additional non-formal activities for children, the institutions miss various types of specialists such as psychologist, speech therapist, special pedagogue, etc. The above-mentioned problems are caused by the excessive number of children in the group, the lack of diversity of educational services, and the working conditions of the staff. This leads to the conclusion that the hypothesis stating that the possibilities of the pre-school education institutions of Area X to provide sufficient educational assistance to the family and the child are limited – has been confirmed.
