The work is aimed at presenting analysis of social intergation of Lithuanian Poles' Youth and the role of civic activity in this process. In the fisrt, theoretical part, of the work there are discussed conceptions of the ethnic minority, integration and ethnic identity, This part also includes an analysis of the Lithuanian Poles’ minority, its civic activity and integration. The structure of ethnic identity is complex: it consists of belonging to nation, ethnic consciousness, the language, culture. In the work all these conponents are discussed in detail. An particular attention is payed to the conception of integration and the role of social activity in this process. Social activity determines the integration of Poles‘ in Lithuania: such aspects of social acitivity as participation in politics, polish civic organization, issues of education in native language, nationality are discussed in the work. In the work is analysing Poles‘s social activity by the politics, nationality, education, polish organizations. Discussing these dimensions I refer to such authors as M. Kal‘avský, V. Bačová, E. K. Francis, Š. Hernová, J.Mucha as well as works of Lithuanian researchers’. namely N.Kasatkina, T.Leončikas, V.Beresnevičiūtė, M.Taljūnaitė, N.Statkus, R.Motuzas. In the second, empirical part of the work there are presented results of qualitative research on social integration of Lithanian Poles‘ Youth. In the research there were conducted 18 in-depth semi-structured interviews with two groups of informants – the participants of Polish organizations, and not participating youth. The research allowed to explore what meaning has to be a Pole for polish youth. The reasearch revealed some difficulties of integration into the Lithuanian society: encounters with the Lithuanian people negative attitude toward the Poles‘ youth, difficulties to join the : Lithuanian organizations, the problems of mixed families, employer negative attitude toward Poles‘. The results of the research also show that for Poles’ youth it is very important to preserve Polish identity and transfer it to their children. Poles youth actively participates in Polish and Lithuanian organizations, attend in important political decisions of Lithuania. |
