In Lithuanian linguistics the realization of the phenomenon of joking has not been theoretically discussed. Joking has only been analysed by a small amount of literature or folklore researchers so far.The aim of this article is to discuss how proverbs are used to react jokingly to a situation when thanks are given, what aspects of thanking are emphasized in proverbs, and how the effect of joking is achieved. Lithuanian proverbs presented in the database of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore are analysed. [...]. |
