The main task for breeding centres is improvement and multiplication of pigs bred and that of commercial farms is rational use of the breeding progeny in crossbreeding (hybridization) combinations. Pig selection carried out in breeding centres is directed towards higher litter size and milk yield and improvement of fattening and carcass traits. In selection of pigs it is important to consider such selectional and genetic parameters as correlation coefficient. The magnitude of correlation between different productivity indicators of pigs depends on many factors, but some of the most important are breed, genetic structure of the herd, performance level, and environmental conditions.
