Abstract [eng] The establishment of a family at the state level is connected with marriage, which is, according to the law, a formalized voluntary agreement between a man and a woman in creating legal family relationship by eliminating alternative family institution types. Unfortunately, the socialization and value internalization process is commencing uninterruptedly and neglecting the family module. In Lithuania little attention has been paid to the issue of family values. Apart from European and World value investigations, a part of which were devoted to solving value and valuable orientation questions, special family value investigations in Lithuania were not executed. The study results revealed that most of the respondents living in two-parent and single-parent families appreciate living together before the wedding, because it allows them to get to know someone before registering the marriage. The fact that young people appreciate living together before the wedding is related to actual interpersonal relationships, communication, a search for the meaning of life, independence and the pursuit for autonomy from their parents.
