Abstract [eng] The article analyses the construct of identity in the postmodern perspective. In the postmodern society, identity is treated as a multiple, fluid, fragmented, hybrid object. The one-dimensional essentialistic model that existed for a long time was replaced by a multi-dimensional model, by-stating that identities are not necessarily in the conflict with each other because individuals can combine multiple identities. The article reveals that the contemporary postmodern life conditions, through continuous migration, creation of speculative networks discourses, consumerism, mediated experiences changed the understanding and creation of the national identity. The dominant cultural discourse can reconstruct the identity in the new way, under hybridity conditions. It is shown that hybrid identities can be liberating and transgressive because they challenge boundaries and propose the third space. The diaspora identity is to be treated as occupying the aculturally syncretic third space and changing the concept of the national identity.
