Abstract [eng] The aim of the present paper is to define how freedom was perceived by the participants of the partisan resistance movement in post-war Lithuania on the basis of poems and song texts of Western Lithuania partisans. The theoretical basis of the research is related to the assumption that a concept is a thinking unit, all information about a thing or phenomenon is formed in people’s, who speak that language, consciousness. A metaphorical model is a scheme of relations between material objects and abstract concepts that function in language users’ consciousness. Metaphorical models fi rstly function in people’s consciousness and only then materialize. Analysis of metaphorical models provides information on how abstract phenomena are perceived in the language worldview as language is the only source of information on the phenomena of the world of ideas. Metaphorical models of FREEDOM in the above-mentioned texts revealed how this abstract phenomenon was perceived by fi ghters for freedom. Five metaphorical models were constructed but FREEDOM is PERSON was the most numerous one. Freedom was perceived as a phenomenon of vital importance, inbuilt in any nation although it may be lost; it is regained, achieved or won in joint efforts, without help from outside, fi ght for freedom is a long or even endless journey, an ideal that an ordinary man is striving for.
