Abstract [eng] The article seeks to evaluate unemployment changes in EU countries during the business cycle, determining and explaining asymmetry between economic output and unemployment growth at the same time. In the modern and global economy labor market becomes extremely sensitive to the changes of economic environment. Labor market dynamics dependent on business cycle changes is an indicator evaluating economical status in the case of EU and separate countries as well. Scientific research, assessing economic growth and unemployment dependence has shown that economic decline affects the unemployment rate negatively. In the research an inverse relationship between economic output and unemployment rate is determined. During the economic growth, the unemployment rate is expected to decrease, and, conversely, in the case of economic downturn, to increase. During the period of economic recession the decline in GDP of one percent can result in about a half percent unemployment growth. Resent empirical research of individual countries showed that the GPD decline effect on unemployment can be more negative in countries of emerging economies. [...].
