Abstract [eng] ICT competence is one of the guarantees of a successful career as both the learning and organisation of work is based on modern ICT environment. Today’s education is impossible without modern ICT and a teacher is the primary and most important factor that determines the level of ICT use and effectiveness of the learning process. Teacher’s competence in ICT is a complex phenomenon which consists of knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and other personal characteristics. The teacher’s competence in ICT is also dynamic. It is very important to regularly review the emerging ICT and education to further clarify what ability to use ICT in the teaching process is required from today’s teacher. This paper investigates the ICT competence of educational specialities students (future teachers). The presented empirical research allows finding out the structure and content of the ICT competence of educational specialities students and reveals the students’ attitude to the use of ICT at school. The results show that students of educational specialities are sufficiently competent in ICT on the basic level. They obtain good skills of work with a text editor, calculator and presentation editor, are able to use various Internet-provided possibilities. Studies enable them to improve their ICT competence in terms of developed skills and substance. The educational specialities students suppose that the use of ICT in school contributes to the quality of education and provides opportunities for individualised education, promotion of communication, interdisciplinary integration and other methods which are based on active pupils’ participation. VLE is a major tool for improvement of training (learning) quality as well assurance of active communication of the school community and strong integration links. Students know at least one VLE. The VLE management skills acquired during studies are assess as good by them. [...].
